About this tool
Location is an estimate. City and region come from IP geolocation databases, not GPS. They're usually right about the country and often the region, but the city can be off by a long way — and mobile, VPN and corporate addresses often show the carrier's or provider's location instead of the user's.
ASN and ISP tell you who runs the network. The ASN (Autonomous System Number)
identifies the network that announces the address to the internet — AS15169 is Google,
for example. If a user's "home" IP comes back as a cloud or hosting company, they're almost certainly
on a VPN or proxy.
"My IP" shows your public address — the one websites and firewalls see.
That's usually your router's or your company's internet gateway, not the private 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x address on the PC. Running it on a user's machine
is a quick way to confirm which office connection or VPN their traffic is actually leaving through.
